If an owner cannot respond, family or partners may not know where instructions live, which repositories matter, or how to continue. Access continuity defines that process in advance—without panic or rushed decisions.

After QuadrigaCX’s chief executive died in December 2018, the case exposed the danger of weak internal controls and dependence on one person. The Ontario Securities Commission’s report, published in June 2020, found C$215 million owed to clients and that fraud—not simply lost keys—caused most of the shortfall.
